Nothing was perfect for her, at a very young age she would read books and books all day and night. When she was in school all she cared for were the books in the library, her friends were thinking about boys and gossip about who they liked, but it was never her. The books she read were all fairy tale books, for whatever reason the fairy tale books would allow her to look into the sky outside and imagine a grand ending, a form of prince charming that would come to save her from what she thought was this dull life. One summer day, she noticed a strange pattern in the books that she read, in the back of the library book, there was a name on it. The name looked oddly familiar, “wait for a second, isn’t that….” she pulled out a grey hardcover book from the table behind her and inspected the library card, it was the same name. And then another, looking through the 5 books that she had taken out, it was all the same name. “How odd,” she thought, why would all these books have the same person.
The next morning, she was on her way back to the library. Walking into town, she saw a tiny little grey dog, with a grey circle around its eyes. She followed her as the dog ran into one small short corridor in the streets that she has never seen before. “how odd, I’ve been across this road a million times” she thought. Into the alley she went, there were little shops in this corridor and people in strange raggedy pointed hats that she’s only seen in the fairy tale books before. “There you are!” she saw the dog ran into a small greenhouse on the other side of the road.
The house was an old antique shop, and the door was one of those old west half doors that can swing in and out, the windows of the house were bedazzled in crystals in assorted colors that when the sun hits could turn the whole room into a dance floor. “Woah… this place…” around the old house there are dragon figurines, skeletal houses that seem to be pulling a chariot, and a black hat in the middle of the room. The black hat has a face that looked angry for some with creases for eyes and face. “The hat you see there is called Walrus.” speaker an old man, he had a long white beard and half-rimmed spectacles with a gaze that would pierce through her soul. But when he smiled, the aura around him lit up the room.
“I’m sorry to intrude, mister, I was following a dog, and it took me to this place.
“Oh he, he’s the neighborhood’s dog, doesn’t belong to anyone but he seems to be taking a liking to you dear.” said the old man as the circles around her.
“What’s weird is that usually, Voldy doesn’t like anyone, except for you.”
“Its name is Voldy?”
“Some people call him Tom, some people call him V, some people just signals a whistle and he goes to them.”
As she looked around the room, there was giant grandfather clock on the other side of the room. The clock has heads for hands instead of the pointed arrow. “The clock is something that I’ve been working on for the last 3 years. It's supposed to give family members safe travels. Here watch this.” The old man took a small key and cranked the clock a few times. Crank and crank, the little heads began to move. The top of the clock had a figure of a car flowing through the sky and behind the car shown the sunset.
“This timepiece is beautiful. Is there a story behind it?.”
“I picked this clock up from Germany 5 years ago. The clock was left out in the streets of Freiberg thought it was interesting, so I took it home with me and ever since then I’ve been trying to fix it.”
“Blimey, it’s almost 6 o’clock, I’ve got to go! I have to return these books.”
And that is the story of J.K Rowling.
